Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Pollster and Editor of the Dispatch newspaper Ben Ephson says the opposition NPP candidate in the upcoming Akwatia re-run election stands a better chance of winning.

Citing turnouts and results recorded in the constituency in earlier ballots, Mr Ephson said a win for the National Democratic Congress candidate will be “a political miracle,” stressing “a win for the NDC will be very difficult.”

The pollster said this during a live interview on Joy FM’s Midday News with Matilda Asante Asiedu on Friday.

The contest is between the NDC’s Baba Jamal and Dr Kofi Asare who runs on the ticket of the NPP.

“As at the end of counts in the 89th minute, the NPP candidate was leading by a little over 3000 votes and Baba Jamal would have to get 80 percent [to] 85 percent of the 4000 plus registered voters if they all turn-up, which is very unlikely,” he said.

The election re-run in six polling stations is to make up for the theft of ballot boxes last December.

With four days to voting, campaigning in the constituency has peaked as top officials of the two contesting parties are said to have pitched camp there.

Meanwhile Communications Director of NDC, Seth Ohene, says the party is confident of a win in the ballot. He said feedback from the ground so far has been position.

Mr Ohene insists the performance of the NDC in government so far is enough to make the party emerge victors.

“The good works of the NDC will demonstrate clearly on the ground; we are confident that based on the good works of the Mills government….we will be able to pick up the sit,” he said.

Although the opposition NPP led in the ballot counted for December but it’s constituency chairman Baba Yakubu said the party is not taking chances even though it is confident of victory.
