Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

A South African man has claimed his lottery prize of 20m rand ($2.5m; £1.6m) - after driving around with the winning ticket for five months.

A spokeswoman for the lottery operator, Gidani, said the man had more than 50 tickets in his car at the time.

"I went to pick up my children from school and I happened to be early. That's when I decided to check my tickets," the winner told Gidani.

He has asked to remain anonymous and has received counselling.

'Stunned'

"Tucked into a pocket in the driver door panel for the past five months was a 20m rand lotto jackpot ticket with the six correct numbers for the draw that took place on 28 March 2009," Gidani spokeswoman Thembi Tulwana said.

She said the man, who is a technician, took the tickets to a retailer to check the numbers.

He was winning between 30 rand and 100 rand in small prizes until the last ticket read "not authorised to pay".

So he took it to Gidani's head offices in Midrand near Johannesburg.

Ms Tulwana says he was so stunned by his newly found riches that he kept the news to himself for a while.

He said the first thing he would do was settle his debts.

After that he said he wanted to renovate his house and start planning towards his children's future.

He had spent 40 rand on his winning ticket and chose the numbers randomly, Ms Tulwana said.
