AFAG: Move the Rawlings’ to their Adjirigaano residence

Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) says the Rawlingses must relocate to their Adjirigaano private residence in order not for government to spend a colossal amount in securing a new residential facility and office complex for them.

The suggestion follows government’s decision to provide a new housing facility for the ex-first family, after their ridge residence was consumed by fire on Sunday.

Speaking with Citi FM, Samuel Awuku, spokesperson of AFAG said instead of government “scouting round” in search for a residence for Mr Rawlings and his family, the easier option is for the Rawlingses to move into their “huge edifice” at Adjirigaano.

This he said would bury any controversy of a preferential treatment accorded to Mr. Rawlings, especially when the office accommodation for the immediate past President Mr Kufuor had not been settled.

Asked if he has any knowledge the condition under which the Adjirigaano residence is, Mr Awuku explained the residence from the outside looks more “sophisticated” than the Ridge residence which has been gutted by fire.

He added government could put “finishing touches” to the residence if there is any job left to be done on the residence

Given the knowledge and security implications of the status of an ex-president, Mr Awuku argued Mr Rawlings must have taken that into consideration before putting up the building.

Mr Awuku expressed his profound regrets to the ex-first family over the fire disaster saying AFAG stands shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

But deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia said the Adjirigaano proposal is a non-starter, in fact "red herring."

He intimated government is occupied with the task of providing a new accommodation for the ex-first family.

That is a priority he intimated.
