Alhaji Bature, a former host of ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ on Radio Gold has said that, Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party in the 2008 general elections will win the impending NPP flag-bearership race but the party will still lose the 2012 elections.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM Friday, Alhaji Bature who is also a staunch member of the ruling National Democratic Congress said Nana Akufo-Addo is a good candidate and stands a better chance of ruling this country.
Despite all these qualities; he said Nana Addo will not be able to rule this country because he does see NPP winning the 2012 elections and Nana Addo may be too ‘old’ to stand in subsequent elections.
“I think Akufo-Addo will win; there is no two ways about that...I think that he can become a better material for Ghana...Akufo-Addo if he becomes the President of Ghana, I think he can deliver but the timing is unfortunately not on his side because I don’t see NPP [winning the 2012 elections],” he said.
Not doubting Nana Addo’s competence, Alhaji Bature said destiny is against him; “I don’t doubt Akufo-Addo’s competence at all, I think that he is capable, he will be able to manage this country and he will become a good president but unfortunately, time is working against him because if in the 2012 elections he doesn’t make it, I wonder whether he can make it in their primaries in 2016.”
Age wise, he said Nana Addo may not necessarily be too old for the 2016 elections, but he may be asked to step down.
“He might not be too old but his party members may prefer that he should just step down.”
