Gov't Has Not Committed Any Illegality In STX deal - Ablakwa

Ablakwa     Related Stories   Government says it has not committed any illegality in the handling of the STX Korea Housing deal in respect of the 1.5 billion dollar loan, needed to start the construction of 30,000 housing units for the country’s security services. Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa told Citi News that the Mills administration’s handling of the STX deal has so far kept faith with all known laws of the country. His comments come in the wake of the latest setback that has hit the much talked about deal. In the latest twist, the National Youth Organizer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) is asking the Supreme Court to order Parliament to discontinue its action of laying the loan agreement before the house and its approval until the determination of the case. This setback comes after President Mills had also directed the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing Alban Bagbin, to withdraw the document on the deal from the house until some hitches were corrected. But Mr. Okudjeto Ablakwa says government is unperturbed about the latest development since it has done everything right. When asked if the government will request Parliament to further suspend debate on the loan agreement pending the hearing of Mr. Bomfeh’s case, the Deputy Information Minister answered in the negative. "We are the executive who have initiated a project and somebody has gone to court, that’s the judiciary. Parliament is master of its own processes, and if parliament feels that there is a matter duly pending in court and they have been properly served, and they have become aware of it, Parliament will then know what to do. It will lie in the bosom of the Speaker to take a decision. So that will not be a matter for us in the executive or government, to go and pontificate to the Legislature to tell them what to do. So far as we are concerned, we are on the right path, we have done the right thing so the relevant institutions must do their work within the scheme of things’’ he said.       Source: citifmonline.com
