A retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Prof A K P Kludze has told Citi News he fears Judges in the country may soon become targets of physical harm and killings just as it happened in Rawlings’ revolutionary regime in the past.

Justice Kludze’s comments are in reaction to threats by the NDC Chairman who says the party will clean the Judiciary if the Attorney General refuses to do so. Dr Kwabena Agyei made the threatening comments in an interview with Citi News after addressing a press conference to show solidarity with the beleaguered Attorney General who has lost a number of high profile cases against former NPP Government officials.

The latest of such cases lost by the state was one brought against Dr Charles Wereko-Brobbey and former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani who were accused of willfully causing financial loss to the state in organizing Ghana’s golden jubilee anniversary.

The ruling NDC suspects the state is losing cases because some Judges are sympathetic to the NPP. It is that suspicion that has prompted the threat from Dr Kwabena Agyei. But Justice Kludze says he fears Judges may soon be killed in the country as a result of Dr Agyei’s threat.

“When a PNDC or an NDC man talks about cleaning the judiciary, you remember in1982 that some of them were eliminated, physical elimination is one way of cleaning the judiciary. When you use that word it can spread terror in the minds of some judges…I am afraid it is very frightening it looks like we are going back into the days of Nkrumah or the PNDC.” He said.
