Maxwell Kofi Jumah
Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Hon Maxwell Kofi Jumah, says he has sent a text message apologizing to Madam Patricia Appiagyei over his comments which suggested that she had the Kumasi mayor position in the erstwhile Kufuor administration through the granting of sexual favours rather than competence. The comment made on a Kumasi-based radio station has since generated controversy, compelling Hon Jumah, a one-time ardent supporter of failed NPP flagbearer aspirant Mr. Alan Kyerematen, to openly apologise.
In an interview with Citi News, Hon Kofi Jumah explained that the comments were not to deride womanhood or cast aspersions on Madam Appiagyei who wants to oust him as MP for the Asokwa constituency.
He said it’s unfortunate that what he calls his off-the-cuff remark has been taken out of context.
“It is unfortunate that it has developed into a life of insults because that was never the intention…that remark was taken out of context and given a different meaning and different implications but it was never made with that intention”.
Some female residents in Kumasi, led by NDC Regional Women’s Organizer, Ama Sarpomaa who were angered by the MP's comments have rescinded their decision to demonstrate against him after the apology.
