Mr. Rawlings told the BBC in an interview in Congo Brazaville where he is at the moment that he is shocked, but not surprised. Mr. Rawlings said although President Mills had been battling with cancer for quite some time, his death came at the wrong time because “we have elections in December”. “Quite frankly had he been advised and done something wiser, he could probably have survived another six seven months I guess”, he told the BBC. He described the man he once worked with as his vice president as one of the finest. Mr. Rawlings was disappointed the late President Mills could not re-open the cases of “some of the cold blooded killings that took place before we came into office”. He however hoped President John Dramani Mahama will provide the leadership that will make Ghana go forward. |
