Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Managing Editor of theBilingual Free Press, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature, has described as mere propaganda, government’s publication of its achievements.

Contributing to a panel discussion on “Ekosii Sen” on AsempaFM, an Accra-based private radio station, Alhaji Bature bluntly stated that he lacks belief in the ‘propaganda’ churned out by the ruling party.

He was of the view that even if indeed the NDC government had achieved all what is captured in the publication; it was not for them to make noise about it.

“I am not somebody who is enthused about these things; when you do things like this, it amounts to propaganda,” he said.

The ruling NDC party has printed a book cataloguing the achievements of President Mills’ administration in its two years in government. The publication is titled “Better Ghana Agenda – The Achievements of the Prof Mills Led Gov’t, Its First Two Years In Office”.

According to the Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, the publication is one of the channels through which the Ministry of Information is using to publicize the good works of the NDC government.

The book touches on the NDC’s achievement in the Education sector, Agricultural sector, Roads and Transport, Governance and all the other relevant sectors of the economy.

But the former host of Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhajiprogramme, who incidentally is also a known NDC sympathizer, stated that it was an unnecessary venture embarked on by the government. He said the NDC should have allowed others to assess what the party has achieved, instead of trumpeting its own successes.

“If it is true that the government has done everything being bandied about, the people should see and feel it, you don’t need to make noise about it…The Asante’s have an adage that says ‘Awene pa nkasa’ which literally means, good things do not speak for themselves, the appearance alone tells it all,” he added.
