Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Another Top NPP Member In Police Custody

The whereabouts of a Deputy Communication Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who was allegedly arrested by some security operatives, has finally been located.

The NPP Executive has been locked up at the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) cells.

Sammy Awuku, another executive of the party’s communications team, confirmed the news in an interview on OmanFM at about 12am.

Yaw Buabeng Asamoah was picked up at gun-point near the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel by the police at about 9pm on Monday, after he had gone to the Regional Offices of the BNI where an NPP firebrand, Kennedy Agyapong was being kept in a show of solidarity.

For more than three hours, the NPP leadership had no idea who had caused his arrest, why he had been arrested and where he was being held.

Acting Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, had earlier told the Madina-based radio station that he could neither confirm nor deny if Mr Buabeng Asamoah was in police custody since his superiors had not briefed him of the reported incident.

However, an hour after the Police mouthpiece’s interview, Sammy Awuku confirmed that had seen and spoken with his colleague communications member.

According to him, he together with Anthony Karbo, National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Abu Ramadan, a member of the People’s National Convention Party (PNC) and some regional executives of the party, stormed the police headquarters armed with evidence that Mr Asamoah was in their custody and demanded that the police arrest them as well.

“…we were taken to where he was being held together with another NPP activist…he (Asamoah) does not know the reason for his arrest neither were the police able to tell us why they arrested him…it’s really bizarre…my brother, it is sad that a country claiming to be practicing democracy can arrest and detained civilians overnight without preferring any charges against them…I’m sad for my country,” Sammy Awuku lamented.
