ANGRY supporters of a nominee DCE nominee for Gushigu district nearly lynched the District Co-ordinating Director (DCD) of Gushiegu, Ziblim Alhassan for allegedly masterminding the rejection of the nominee, Yussif Zakaria. But for the quick intervention of the military, the angry youth would have lynched the DCD. The military had to lock the co-ordinating director in his office for more than three hours while efforts were made to calm nerves of the angry protestors. The angry supporters of the nominee accused Mr. Alhassan of being an NPP sympathiser and against the nominee. They alleged that since Mr Yussif’s name was announced, the Co-ordinating Director had been working against his confirmation by holding secret meetings with some assembly members believed to be NPP sympathisers. Not even the presence of the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Moses Mabengba could scare the angry youth. As soon as EC officials declared that the nominee could not secure the 2/3 of the required votes, the protestors rushed on the DCD. The nominee polled 11 out of 14 which fell short of the required. The nominee, Yussif Zakaria has a second chance within 10 days to get confirmation or rejection. |
