Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Ghanaians express disgust over judgement debts

Ghanaians express disgust over judgement debts
Ghanaians in parts of the country have been expressing their opinions at the way several millions of cedis are being doled out in the name of judgment debts.

The judgement debt paid to business mogul Alfred Agbesi Woyome shot the phenomenon into prominence.

The government incurred GHc 642m million as judgment debts between 2001 and 2011, a Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was quoted as saying.

Out of the amount, GHc 117 million was paid in 2009, GHc 276 million in 2010 and GHc 231 million in 2011. While some of the payments were tortuous claims resulting from molestations by members of the security agencies, others were in respect of wrongful dismissal of government employees, compensation in respect of accidents caused by some public officials, as well as wrongful demolition of private properties.

Breach of contracts constituted majority of the payment made during the period under review. Eighty-six institutions and individuals benefited from such payments in 2010 alone

The recent payments have drawn varying opinions from some sections of the public who spoke to Joy FM.
