Mills Lashes out at Kuffour
Why does Mills has to blame Kuffour if he wants to increase prices of petroleum products? I still do not understand why Kuffours administration has to be blamed. Mills is definitely using the former administration as an excuse in order to disquite his supporters and Ghanaians who feel the president has lied to him and has not kept his promise to drastically reduce petrol price. I think finding an excuse is not the right answer. What Mills must tell his supporters and Ghanaians is that he was wrong for promising to drastically reduce petrol prices. He should tell them that his moving into the Castle has informed him that the former administration was right to increase petrol prices. wITH THAT gHANAIANS WILL UNDERSTAND HIM
In his first public comments about the recent petroleum price increases, President Mills said the Kufuor administration has plunged the Ghanaian economy into so much debt that companies which previously supplied the country with crude oil on credit are no longer willing to do so.
“The previous government was spending more than it had collected. When you have a situation like this, you can't balance your books and you leave a big hole in the economy.
“We did not want Ghanaians to get the impression that we were out to offer excuses. We are putting the economy together,” he stated.
President Mills said government had no better alternative than to increase fuel prices as it strives to put the economy on a sound footing.
“We have had to increase fuel prices, we did not do this to cause pain to Ghanaians but given the circumstances, we had no alternatives,” President Mills told the press at the Castle, Osu.
He intimated that Ghana's credit-worthiness has suffered as a result of the country's unsettled debts with oil companies.
“It is even difficult to get companies to supply us crude because they are owed and therefore there is the need for us to ensure that we get enough revenue to be able to liquidate these debts,” President Mills emphasised.

I think Mills is making it clear to Ghanaians and the world at large that he is not as honest as he himself purported when he wanted them to vote for him. I quiet remember the previous government made it clear to the people of Ghana that the prices of fuel was not increased to tarry with the price of crude oil that hit $150 a barrel. This would have caused difficulties to the ordinary ghanaian. They explained that it was for that matter that they maintained fuel prices even after the fall in prices to make for the difference. Mills found this a fertile ground to campaign against the ruling government, taking advantage of the ignorance of the masses on the economic realites.
Today, he is defending his dishonesty and incompetence by blaming the previous government. This is just the beginning. Let´s wait and see. Ghanaians dhould also remember he promised that we shall only pay one permanent premium for health insurance...
