Police express concern about sale of dangerous weapons in public
Accra-The Ghana Police Service on Friday expressed concern about the sale of dangerous weapons such as small axes and jack knives along the streets.
"Criminals who lay their hands on such implements use them to break into rooms, threaten the lives of people and rob them of their valuables," a statement in Accra said on Friday.
The statement by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Kwesi Ofori, Director of Public Affairs, said the implements which were normally displayed openly under traffic lights and pavements were threatening and dangerous to the lives of the general public and therefore called traders to desist from selling them in the open. In a related development, DSP Ofori said as part of measures put in place to ensure effective communication with the police and to reduce crime and violence, the service had provided the following telephone numbers to the public.
They are; 021-773906, 021-775769, 021-773900, 021-773695 while the 191 on Tigo, MTN, Kasapa and Vodafon still remained active and valid.
