Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Mac Manu out of chairmanship race

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Manu says his decision not to seek re-election as the party’s chairman stems from the NPP’s inability to retain political power in the 2008 Presidential Polls.

Mr. Mac Manu was elected chairman of the NPP in 2004 and was expected to seek re-election at the party’s national delegates’ conference scheduled for December.

Mr. Mac Manu however in an interview with Citi News said since his attempt to win power for the party failed it was reasonable that he paved way for another person to take over the mantle of leadership of the party.

“I took the party to elections in 2008, as chairman of the party we could not win. I must take the blame and give way for other people to come in.”

Mr. Mac Manu dismissed media reports that he had stepped down as chairman of the New Patriotic Party. He reiterated that he has only decided not to seek re-election.

“I have not stepped down as the chairman of the party. I have up to December when my term of office which is four years will expire.

I have run the race for four years and I want to hand over the baton to a new person to take over the mantle of leadership of the New Patriotic Party.” He said

Since the NPP lost power to the Atta Mills led National Democratic Congress in 2008 the issue of which set of people form the next leadership of the party has become topical among the rank and file of the party.

It is expected that the next congress of the party will produce a new set of leaders to drive the party in its quest to wrestle power from the NPP

Mac Manu’s decision opens up an even opportunity for other aspirants in the party to contest for the coveted position of NPP chairman.
