The 30% increase in fuel prices announced by the Ghana government on Friday June 5, 2009 has generated a heated debate in the local press. Yesterday, on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, the managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt took President J.E.A. Mills to task and urged him to apologize to Ghanaians for failing to fulfill his campaign promise to reduce fuel prices.
Mr. Pratt, who is also a leading member of the committee for Joint Action (CJA) said, the government’s reason that fuel prices are determined by National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is hollow and unacceptable, because there cannot be an increase in fuel prices without government’s approval. He added that the previous NPP government told Ghanaians the same thing back during its reign but the CJA and the NDC rejected it and went ahead to demonstrate against it. He therefore wondered why the NDC is using the same template today when it finds itself in government.
According to Mr. Pratt, government buy’s crude oil at negotiated prices, this is less than what pertains on the world market. He said it can reduce taxes on fuel products to make fuel cost less and make life a little bearable for Ghanaians. He said the increase in fuel prices will lead to a substantial increase in commodities, goods and services, hence making the standard of living very difficult for Ghanaians. “The government has deceived us and must therefore come out to apologize and explain to us,” he concluded.

Why should the president apologise for lying and deceiving the peoople?Dont you know that making promises and pledges and breaking them are part of the political game?
Today, Kwesi Pratt has realised he fooled ghanaians into believing that Mills is more ernest? I think the good people of Ghana will get to learn their lessons this time.
I don´t think Mills - the Professor - was ignorant or naif about the economic realities on the groung when he was playing on the confidence and ignorance of the masses, to enable him have access to the presidency. Oh, poor the ordinary citizen of Ghana!!!
Now, look at the "angel" and their "worshipers".
