Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak asked to Proceed on leave

President Evans Atta Mills has directed Youth and Sports Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak to proceed on leave pending the outcome of investigations into allegations of financial malfeasance made against him by Mr Adim Odoom, an accountant at the ministry.

A statement signed by Mr J. K. Bebaako Mensah, Secretary to the President, and issued in Accra yesterday, said, "In order to ensure fairness in dealing with the matter, the President has directed that the National Security Co-ordinator should carry out an investigation into the allegations." The directive urged Alhaji Mubarak to hand over the operations of the ministry to his deputy, Nii Nortey Dua, who will act in his absence.

The Daily Graphic, in its Saturday, June 6, 2009 edition, carried the report that the National Security Council Secretariat had taken over investigations into the matter on the directive of the President.
