Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

The Police Administration says it would not rush to prosecute police officers alleged to have been cultivating Indian hemp in Yilo Krobo.

Director of Police Public Affairs, DSP Kwesi Ofori, said although the perpetrators of the alleged act have to be brought to book, the police would follow due process before it draws conclusions.

The District Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo, Andrews Sodah, in an earlier interview with Joy News fingered high ranking police officers in his district as being into Indian hemp cultivation.

The DCE also said former Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP George Ankobil and the Municipal Police Commander of New Juaben, Supt. John Naami, failed to prosecute farmers arrested for cultivating the narcotic herbs.

He alleged some police officers have also refused to arrest Indian hemp cultivators during special operations because the officers received bribes from the farmers.

Mr Sodah said the practice is encouraging more people to cultivate the narcotic herb.

But speaking to Joy News on Thursday, DSP Ofori said “Proper decision has to be done but not to satisfy the need of the media by jumping into conclusions.”

Responding to suggestions that the Mr Sodah has no intention to report the matter to the Inspector General of Police, DSP Ofori said that DCE’s stance is definitely a non-starter.

“Those who allege that some police officers have compromised, I need them to come out and provide evidence. We might need them during investigations to enable us establish the truth,” he hinted.
