Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

AGI fires at PURC over recent utility tariff increases

The Association of Ghana Industries says the recent increase in utility tariffs could lead to the collapse of industries especially small and medium sized ones.

In a letter to the chairman of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission, the association says the increase would also result in the collapse of companies that rely heavily on electricity, such as those into textiles, steel and cement.

According to the Association the hikes will also lead to job losses and increase in prices.

The public Utilities Regulatory Commission last month announced an 89 percent and 36 percent increase in electricity and water tariffs.

But the AGI maintains for industries this translates to a 170 to 200 percent average increase.

It is calling for gradual increases rather than the one offs as has been the case.
