Tony Aidoo torments NPP

Director of Evaluation and Monitoring for government policies Dr Tony Aidoo         The director of Evaluation and Monitoring for government policies Dr Tony Aidoo has launched a blistering attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describing members of the opposition party as nation wreckers. According to the leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), only nation wreckers will oppose a deal by government to construct decent accommodation for security forces in the country. "When these NPP people opposed the deal for the construction of 30,000 housing units for our security forces and their MPs walked out from parliament, I was thinking as to whether these people are a political party or a bunch of nation wreckers," Dr Aidoo told Angel FM in an interview on Wednesday. The NDC hatchet man said the Danquah-Busia tradition of which the NPP is an offshoot is the only political tradition in the nation's history that did not build a single affordable house during their reign. "Check the records, the late President Kwame Nkrumah built affordable houses, President Rawlings did the same and even the late President Hilla Limann also did something," he observed. According to him, the so-called affordable houses that ex-President Kufuor's administration claimed it built were distributed free of charge to party functionaries and cronies of the former President. He contended that the NPP strongly opposed the STX Korea deal for the construction of 200,000 housing units across the country because it failed to undertake such a huge investment when it was in power. "I can tell you that they did not want the deal to go through because they could not do it during their time and they do not want the NDC to do it so that Ghanaians will renew government's mandate." Dr Aidoo equally descended on the newly elected NPP presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo describing his attacks on government as imprudent. The former sociology lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, noted that had Nana Addo exercised a bit of responsibility, he would not have called President Mills 'Professor Do little.' Speaking to journalists after a breakfast meeting with three of the four losing aspirants at his Nima residence in Accra on Tuesday, Nana Addo mockingly referred to the President who is currently on leave as 'Professor Do Little'. Dr Aidoo said government will respond appropriately to the NPP flag bearer not on radio or in the newspapers but through an excellent performance that would make his dream of becoming the next President a fiasco. "We have a lot of good works to do to please Ghanaians so that we can secure their mandate again so we will not spend time to respond to him in the media but through our excellent delivery." He said the Mills-led government was per forming well and that it had achieved significant results since it assumed office some 18 months ago.
