Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Dan Botwe blasts Rawlings over security comments

Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Mr Dan Botwe, says former President Rawlings’ latest comments on security matters are intended to divert attention from the poor performance of the Mills administration.

Mr Botwe said the Mr Rawlings’s comments are also intended to draw attention to himself.

“He just wants to draw attention to himself; he is always an attention seeker.

President Mills and his intelligence and his government would have to be smarter,” Mr Botwe said.

Former President Rawlings is said to be furnishing the security agencies with intelligence on the operations of persons thought to be masterminds of recent armed robberies and murders recorded in parts of the country.

He is said to have told some ministers and party executives who called on him from the Volta region, the NDC’s political opponents are behind the worsening security situation.

But he failed to name the culprits. His aide, Kofi Adams says there is no need for Mr. Rawlings to go public with names.

Rather he said the former president is providing leads to the security agencies for action.

“In matters like this you pick information from sources and it is only though in-depth investigations that will bring out the details.”

“Names are being thrown out, points of meeting are being thrown out, various agendas at various persons’ houses are being picked up and all this is being passed on to the appropriate agencies,” Mr Adams hinted.

But the MP for Okere Dan Botwe says allegations as baseless.

He said the former president is diverting attention from failures of the Mills administration.

I do not believe Rawlings has to go public if he has some advice for the Mills administration. Also it is wrong for Rawlings to point fingers at NPP members. If he has any proof he should give it to the national security agencies for them to work on it instead of going public.

There is no doubt Rawlings has deep knowledge about how to handle security matters but going public and pointing accusing figures will not solve the problem.

Mills administration and the national security apparatus have been preoccupied with snatching cars while arm robbers have field day doing as they pleased with impunity.

What is the BNI doing? What is the police service doing? If they lack the resources to combat crimes then they should resourced to go about deal with the security threat posed by the criminals.
