Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

The Tesano Police have accepted to take full responsibility for the burial and funeral of the late Mr Paul Kwabena Ofori, a lotto operator who died as a result of his alleged manhandling while in their custody. The late Mr Ofori, a husband and a father of eight, died in the month of May this year following the rather cruel and violent manner of his arrest by the Police Patrol Team and subsequent neglect on the part of some police officers of the unit.

He was mistakenly arrested by the Tesano police for dealing in Indian hemp or ‘wee’, but friends, families, investigations and even the Member of Parliament for his area testified that he was an innocent lotto operator. Reports say the man was sick upon his arrest but the police refused to allow him go for medical care despite his plea. A source at the station who revealed this to our reporter, Obeng Manu said that he even collapsed in the cells yet they still refused him medical attention till he died.

This provoked the MP for his area, Hon Elizabeth Afriyie who knows him personally and is even sponsoring one of his children in school to report the case to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Tawiah Quaye to investigate the case. The police have therefore accepted to take the responsibility of the funeral. They have also promised to give his family the necessary support when the need arises and will also recruit two of the deceased’s children into the police service as part of compensation for causing the man’s death. This was confirmed by Hon. Afriyie on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show.
