Peace FM has donated an amount of GH¢5,000 (¢50million old cedis) to the Retired National Footballers Association to help take good care of their needy members. The donation was also to serve as a form of appreciation to the retired players for honouring Peace FM’s invitation to play a football match with them as part of activities marking the Station’s 10th anniversary, in the month of June 2009. On behalf of the Station, the Head of News, Mr. Edward Faakye who spoke on behalf of management presented a bank cheque for the amount to the players, and thanked them for honouring the station’s invitation by playing a keenly contested football match with Peace FM. He also added that the Retired Footballers Association need help because they did a lot for their nation Ghana in the past. He urged the general public and organizations to emulate what Peace FM had done to help members of the Association who are sick, poor or need assistance in one way or another. Reverend Osei Kofi, General Secretary of the Association who received the cheque on behalf of the Retired Footballers also thanked Peace FM for their generosity. He confessed that they really need the money and said the money has come at the right time because “we are indeed in financial crisis”. He then asked for a return match since the first game ended in a draw. Mr. Faakye promised him that management and staff of the station would think about it and give them the reply. credit:peacefmonline.com |
