Armed robbers snatch car at Enyiresi
By GNA - Ghana News Agency
Enyiresi, Aug. 5, GNA – Three armed robbers have attacked and snatched away an Opel Astra saloon car with registration number AS 2727 Z, belonging to one Daniel Nyarko Odoi at Enyiresi near Anyinam in the Eastern Region.
Narrating his story to the GNA on board a vehicle from Nkawkaw to New Abirem, Mr. Odoi, aged 28, said at about 22.30 hours on July 31, he was driving from Kumasi to Accra accompanied by a friend, Enoch Mensah. On negotiating a sharp curve after passing through Enyiresi, a taxi car driving from the opposite direction blinded them with its headlights.
He therefore slowed down to allow the vehicle to pass but it suddenly crossed his path, causing a collision of the two vehicles.
The victim said three armed young men aged between 19 and 23 years stepped out from the taxi, pointed guns at them and asked them to raise up their hands.
He said the robbers then proceeded to search their vehicle and took their mobile phones and a cash of 750.00 Ghana Cedis. Not content with the money, the robbers started hitting them with the guns, opening a cut on the forehead of his friend Mensah.
The victim said the armed robbers then sped off in their taxi and his Opel car, leaving them to their fate.
Mr. Odoi added that not long afterwards, an Urvan passenger bus on its way to Nkawkaw spotted them and after hearing their story, gave them a lift to Nkawkaw where they went to the police to lodge a complaint.
They had to spend the night at the station and when they reported at the Holy Family hospital the following morning for medical treatment, Mensah was admitted but was later treated and discharged.
Odoi said unknown to them, when the armed robbers took their mobile phones they pretended to be police officers and started dialling the contacts on the phones to indicate that the two had died in a car accident, and that their bodies had been deported at the Kumasi Central Hospital.
When contacted, a police source at Nkawkaw confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.
