Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

The NPP Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Hon. P.C. Appiah Ofori, is to make another drama out of an allegation leveled against him by his colleague NPP MP for Asokwa, Hon. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, about forged documents issued to Parliament.

Hon. Kofi Jumah had alleged on Peace FM that, Hon. P.C. Appiah Ofori presented a false Curriculum Vitae (CV) and profile of himself to Parliament, in his quest to qualify as an MP. According to him, Hon. Appiah Ofori claimed he was a Doctor, a lawyer and an Accountant, but has no “classmate”, meaning he could not make available his certificates, nor disclose where he schooled or the year he graduated. He urged Ghanaians not to pay attention to him because, “he is not trustworthy”. “How can we give an award to such a liar”?

Hon. Kofi Jumah was speaking in reaction to Monday’s publication by the ‘Enquirer newspaper’ that Hon. Appiah Ofori was scheduled to receive a “Millennium Gold Medal Award for incorruptible Icons in Africa", at a ceremony to take place in Accra on August 27, this year. Hon. Appiah Ofori was very furious and dismissed all the allegations levelled against him by the MP. He explained that, he filled a form in Parliament describing himself as an accountant, but on the form, there was a family profile column where he identified his second and last born as a doctor and a lawyer respectively. He demanded a recording of Hon. Kofi Jumah’s voice from Peace FM, saying, he would use it as evidence to sue him for defamation of character, because he had never said he was a doctor or a lawyer. He stated: “enough is enough for this stupidity”, he will meet me at the court to show me where I said that.”

According to him, the Asokwa MP just want to tarnish his image because he had exposed them (NPP MPs) of taking $5,000 bribe each from the former NPP Government, to vote in favour of the GT-Vodafone Deal. He added “when I said they took $5,000 bribe, they threatened to sue and dismiss me from the Party, but they could not succeed because they knew I said the truth.”
