Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Gruesome Murderer Grabbed

princeThe Police in Kumasi have arrested Prince Adu Boakye, 24, in connection with the gruesome murder of Yaw Atta, a foreign exchange dealer at the Kumasi Central Market. Atta was lured by his killers, who stripped him of his GH¢150,000 after dispatching him to the world beyond.

Adu Boakye’s alleged accomplice, whose name was given only as Francis, said to have come from Accra for the operation, is on the run. Boakye, a business partner of the deceased, both dealers in foreign currencies, popularly called ‘black market’, at ‘18mu’, a popular base in the Kumasi Central market, has been singing like a canary, in his caution statement to the police.

He confessed to killing Atta around 4:00pm on Monday and bolting with the cash along with his accomplice. Under the pretext of changing Cedis into Dollars, Boakye said he and Francis lured Atta to a secluded area behind the Asante Paradise Hotel near Ahodwo where they shot the deceased who was in the front seat of a VW vehicle with registration number AS 5188 A. In anticipation of taking Atta’s life, the perpetrators drilled a hole at the back of the vehicle, owned by Boakye’s friend, a certain Arnold, so as Boakye and Atta were engaged in a chat, Francis shot the deceased person from behind through the seat, killing him instantly.

After committing the heinous crime, they placed the body of Atta at the back seat of the car, drove through Atasemanso, Kromoase, Santase before finally dumping him at a nearby bush at Apire and bolting away with Atta’s huge amount of money in a bag around 5:00pm. The suspects also dumped the VW car which they had used for the operation at another unknown place in the city before parting ways with their booty. So far, the Police have retrieved GH¢55,000 (¢550 million) being part of Boakye’s share of the booty, as his accomplice Francis, is said to be on the run with his share of the money, also believed to be in millions of old Ghana cedis.

Briefing Daily Guide, Chief Inspector Mohammed Yussif Tanko of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, said investigations have uncovered that Atta collected the huge money from business partners with the promise of exchanging them for US Dollars. After many hours of waiting, with Atta not showing up, one Adjei, who gave the deceased person GH¢3600 to change into Dollars, lodged a complaint with the police, Tanko said.

Later on, Chief Inspector Tanko noted that the owner of the vehicle (Arnold) also lodged a complaint with the police to the effect that Boakye who had collected his car for his personal rounds was not returning it after many hours. He said Arnold’s car was later on seen parked and abandoned at a serene place around the Asante Paradise Hotel area with blood stains in the front and back seats. Minutes later, he said, the police got information that Atta’s dead body had been found in a nearby bush at Apire, so Arnold, who claimed Boakye and Atta visited him earlier on in the day, raised the alarm, leading to the apprehension of the suspect who admitted to committing the crime.

Police, he said, are on the heels of Francis who is currently on the run, appealing to the general public to provide the police with vital information that could help them arrest the killer. He said also that the police could not quantify the exact amount Atta’s murderers took away.
