The NDC constituency office in Drobo, Amasaman on Tuesday was the scene of fierce fighting between two constituency officers.
Propaganda Secretary, Atta Mensah and organiser Nicholas Sottie, who are both seeking re-election, and whose wives are both vying for the deputy constituency women’s organiser, accused each other of peddling falsehood to win votes.
The controversy was said to have degenerated into serious pound-for-pound exchanges during a meeting to finalise plans for Wednesday’s elections.
The meeting subsequently had to be called off.
Another aspirant who was at the scene of the fight narrating the incident to Joy News, said; “It was a fierce fight between the two of them over their wives and their girl friends. They are all contesting for the same position.”
“No serious injuries were recorded,” he said, adding "it was a fierce fight we had to come in and separate them. Both of them were on the ground," he said.
Constituency chairman, Tommy Okine said an investigation has been instituted into the matter and the appropriate sanctions will be applied.
He chided them for not using dialogue to resolve their differences.
Today’s violence follows similar skirmishes reported in parts of Accra, Akropong and Kumasi, but the party’s general secretary, Elvis Afriyie insists those were exceptions and not the rule.
