U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit five African countries in early August, including Kenya, the birthplace of President Barack Obama's father, U.S. and Nigerian officials told Dow Jones Newswires.

Clinton will begin the trip in Kenya, where she will lead a delegation of U.S. businessmen to a forum of the African Growth and Opportunity Act, meant to improve U.S.-African trade relations.

Clinton will also visit Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation and the fifth biggest supplier of oil to the U.S.

The names of the other three countries to be visited weren't disclosed, and the dates of the trip are still being worked out, the officials said.

Obama visited Ghana earlier this month where he delivered a major speech on U.S.-Africa policy. Many African countries felt snubbed by his choice of Ghana.
