GO FOR NANA
To Move Ghana Forward
However this election turns out, it will dramatically advance Ghana’s progress toward equality and inclusion. It took the extraordinary courage of great men like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, J.B Danquah ,Obetsebi Lamptey,Ako Adjei,William Akuffo Addo,Ofori Atta and many more of such patriotic citizens to get us here.
It took an epic battle to get the press to where it is now. It took the perseverance of the civil rights movement and some selfless citizens like Nana Addo Dankwa- Akufo Addo, to end tyrannical rule and make way for democratic rule. Now we have an election in which we will possibly elect for the third time running, a sitting government to steer the affairs of the nation.
On December 28, we are going to elect a president to lead us through a perilous time and restore in us a common sense of national purpose and pride.
The strongest candidate to do that is Nana Addo Dakwah Akufo-Addo. The Crusading GUIDE is proud to endorse him today for president of Ghana. We are convinced that he would celebrate our common values instead of exaggerate our differences.
Some Ghanaians say they are uneasy about Nana Addo because they think he is arrogant. He may be pretty new to them so they can be spared.
You don’t have to like him. You just have to accept that he is the only one who can deliver.
We can provide some assurances. We have known Nana Addo since he entered politics some three decades ago. We have watched him, worked with him, argued with him as he rose from an effective and inspiring human rights champion to Ghana’s Parliament and finally to become the ruling party’s candidate for president.
We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigour, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful and careful decisions. He is ready.
The Believe In Ghana (BIG) that Nana Addo talks about so much is not simply a change in this policy or that one. He envisions a Ghana that can stand up above its compatriots in terms of policy and economic strength. His opponents may say this is an empty, abstract rhetoric.
In fact, it is hard to imagine how we are going to deal with grave domestic and foreign crisis we may face as a nation if we do not elect a disciplined, charismatic and a globally appealing leader to lead the country.
The NDC for the sake of cheap politics has constantly ridiculed Nana Addo’s decision to choose former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Mumamudu Bawumia to partner him for the job.
It is indeed by all standards the best executive decision ever made during the electioneering period, in the face of the current world wide economic challenges. Nana Addo chose an experienced, thoughtful and successful economist as his running mate, he put governing before politicking.
Dr. Bawumia doesn’t bring many votes to Nana Addo though, but he would help him from day one to lead the country. Now that the number of candidates has gone down to two, it very easy to compare the two gentlemen in terms of credentials, track record and popularity, both home and abroad.
The NDC campaign has tried to stage-manage Mils’ exposure to the public. But it’s clear he is not prepared for the job. We do, though, think Nana Addo would govern as much more of a pragmatic leader than many people expect.
We know first-hand that he seeks out and listens carefully and respectfully to people who disagree with him. He builds consensus. As foreign minister, he was most effective in some successful peace deals that were reached in some trouble spots on the continent.
Nana Addo is deeply grounded in the best aspirations of this country, and we need to return to those aspirations. He has had the character and the will to achieve great things.
He has risen with his honour, grace and civility intact. We think, given the opportunity to hold this nation’s most powerful office, he will prove his worth. Our sober view is that Prof. Mills is the wrong choice for president at this critical time of our nation. Nana Addo brings far more promises to the office. But the same cannot be said of Prof Mills, with former President Rawlings in the picture. On the most important issue of the day, the NPP man is a clear choice.
The times cry out for a leader of Nana Addo’s mettle. He is a hero and a man of great character.
He has been battle-tested on the campaign field and shown remarkable grace under fire. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is simply the man we must ALL GO FOR.
