Nana, Alan Storm Brong Ahafo

Nana and Alan seated at a funeral at Chiraa THE 2008 presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his main contender for the flagbearership position, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, over the weekend stormed some parts of the Brong Ahafo Region to mourn with party sympathizers who had lost their relations. However, the usual solemn atmosphere that characterize funerals was absent as the convoys of the two most popular politicians in Ghana at the moment hit the various funeral grounds. Though the two were moving in separate convoys, they clashed at Chiraa, near Sunyani, to attend the funeral of Madam Ama Tiwaa, the grandmother of Felicia Adoma, theRegional Women’s Organizer of the NPP. The old lady died at the age of 120 years. The whole town of Chiraa went gay when news went round that their darling politicians had arrived in town. Nana Akufo-Addo and his compatriots were greeted with party songs and slogans by the mourners and the large crowd who came around to catch a glimpse of him, amidst dancing of the popular ‘Kangaroo’ dance. As the convoy moved out of the funeral grounds, the place was virtually deserted as the crowd moved along with it through the streets of Chiraa. Nana Addo had earlier attended separate funerals at Wamanafo, near Dormaa Ahenkro, where the Brong Ahafo Regional Secretary of the NPP, Anthony Kofi Kusi, was mourning his 72-year-old daughter, Christiana Elizabeth Obeng, a former matron of the University of Ghana Hospital. At Berekum, the 2008 NPP flagbearer and his team mourned with the family of Anthony Asamoah Mensah, who passed away at the age of 68. His father was a founding father of the UP. Among the party gurus who were with team were Ignatius Baffour Awuah, MP for Sunyani West and former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Stephen Ntim, Nana Obiri Boahene, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia, Kwame Twumasi Awuah, among others. Nana Akufo-Addo, after the 2008 general elections, has not much been seen at public platforms. However, the large crowd that met at various places he visited reaffirmed his popularity among the electorate who are disenchanted with the performance of the Mills-led NDC government.
