The first batch of post-graduate students for the Kings University College, a private and specialized post graduate institution, will be enrolled in October this year.
This was revealed by Dr. Felix Kwame Semavor, Founder of the University, at a swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of a 12 member Board of Regents at the Royal Atlantic Resort in Accra on Tuesday.
The board is chaired by Dr. Mensah Otabil, Head of the International Central Gospel Church and Chancellor of the Central University College, Dr. Kwame Semevor (Vice-Chairman), with Her Ladyship, Justice Sophia Akuffo, a Supreme Court judge, Hon Akua Sena Dansua, MP, Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Charles Asembri, Dr. Emmanuel Komla Gbordzoe, Prof John Bright Kobla Aheto, Prof DN Rao, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang H.E Craig John Murray, Prof Adow Obeng and Mr Johnson Kanda as members.
Spelling out the vision of the institution, Dr. Semevor said Kings University will provide top quality, professional, dual post graduate degree for students, not only in Ghana but across the sub-region.
Located at the Royal Atlantic Resort in Accra, the university will offer key programmes such as Masters in Petroleum Law, MBA Banking and Finance, MSC Industrial Management, MSC ICT and a host of other programmes which will provide cutting edge human resource solutions to Ghana’s industry problems.
Prof Adow Obeng who swore the board members into office called for their unflinching commitment and expert advice to ensure that the vision of the university is achieved.
He cited the paucity of funds, infrastructure, and sustainability of the institution as some of the possible challenges that the institution is expected to face and charged the board to provide the requisite assistance for the institution to flourish.
Prof Obeng was particularly happy with the Petroleum law programme, which he said will be crucial as Ghana begins exploration of oil in commercial quantities in 2010.
The Board Chairman, Dr. Otabil congratulated the Semevor family for first conceiving the idea and having the determination to follow it through.
He was hopeful the board members will bring their knowledge and expertise to bear as they take up the responsibility of navigating the institution through its early stages.
In an interview with Myjoyonline on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Gabriel Adu Asare, Public Relations Officer of the University said the institution has been duly accredited by the National Accreditation Board.
The institution, he said, will run exchange programmes with first class institutions abroad and has a 4-star residential boarding facility all located at the Royal Atlantic Resort located off the Weija Barrier, Aplaku Hill.
