Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Tagor's lawyer happy over his client's liberty

Dominic Ayine, lawyer for Kwabena Amaning, alias Tagor has expressed great satisfaction with the decision by the Court of Appeal to acquit and discharge his client.

“I am happy for my client that his liberty has been regained. That liberty was taken away in gross violation of the laws of evidence and more especially on his fundamental principles of our constitution on fair trial,” he told Joy News’ Samson Lardi Ayenini shortly after the ruling.

The Appeals Court led by Justice Peasare on Friday set aside a 15 year sentence for Tagor and Alhaji Issah Abass, by the High Court on drug related offences.

The Judge said no sufficient evidence was adduced during the trial and therefore quashed the earlier ruling.Mr Ayine insisted the charges were deceptive, and was no basis for his client’s conviction.

Tagor together with Issah Abass were charged for illegally possessing and dealing in drugs following the disappearance of 76 parcels of cocaine contained in the now famous MV Benjamin ship. After protracted court proceedings the two were found guilty for the offence and jailed accordingly.
