Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

The Member of Parliament for Weija Constituency, Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has criticised the Ghana Police and the National Security Service saying, the manner in which her driver was arrested and a statement extracted from him was not right and described it as mere harassment.

The Hon. MP’s driver, Mr Abdul-Razak Aminu, was reported to have been arrested at his residence whiles sleeping late in the night at about 11.30pm on Friday, July 17, 2009 and whisked off to the MTTU Headquarters for driving a car without road worthy certificate. He was thrown behind bars till Saturday afternoon when the MP went to post a bond for his bail.

Speaking on “Kokrokoo”, Hon Botchway lamented, “the manner in which they arrested Mr. Aminu was not right, because he does not own the car, I do.” According to her, the car in question has been in the custody of the National Security Service for the past six (6) weeks. She therefore could not understand why the driver was arrested in that circumstance.

She further explained that, the car is still the bona fide property of the government of Ghana so there is no way she could have processed the road worthy certificate in her own name. She added that although she was entitled to the car, the National Security Service impounded it about 6 weeks ago, thus preventing her from transferring the car’s documents into her name. She also revealed that, she was detained and made to write a statement on her arrival to post the bond for her driver on Saturday. She was, however later released after writing her statement.
