The latest New Patriotic Party guru to lace his shoes to join the party’s potential presidential candidates ahead of the 2012 general elections is the former National Organizer of the party, and also former Minister of Health, Major Emmanuel ‘Courage’ Quashigah. Party members and youth activists within the party believe that the emergence of Courage Quarshigah would end the bickering between the two leading contestants, Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, and would give a clean lead for the party to win the 2012 elections. In search for a new leader, beyond Nana Addo and Alan ‘Cash’, the youth think the Voltarian bred and astute politician is the best candidate for the party, with the view that the man has an unblemished record. Speaking to a Senior member of the ‘Activist Forum for The New Ghana’, Mr. Stephen Asiedu, in an interview, said of Mr. Quashigah, “he is an intelligent statesman, a youth developer, an accomplished all round sportsman, a strategist, he is highly disciplined and very much respected across the entire country by all tribes and religious groupings”. He said the Activists Forum was of the believe that in making a fair and balanced assessment of the 2007 Congress situational analysis, supporters presumably did not take a sober reflection of the various presidential aspirants and their conduct. Mr. Asiedu noted that in future, NPP has to develop clear criteria for selecting their potential flag bearers, who should be vetted and presented to congress for a final choice to be made, in the belief that anybody who the congress chooses will surely win the 2012 elections. “Ghanaians should be aware of the fact that Quashigah and a lot of other hardworking persons like the late Kojo Baah-Wiredu, are persons who have distinguished themselves in national service,” he added. Mr. Asiedu said it is crystal clear that supporters of the party are extremely obsessed with the idea that either Nana Addo or Alan should be elected the flag bearer. He continued that the ‘Activist Forum for the New Ghana’ research finding confirms that Major Courage Quashigah’s (Rtd) tremendous track record, both in the military and civilian life are impeccable, and almost second to none. Major Quashigah (Rtd) is a distinguished statesman whose political career started from the CPP as a leader in the young pioneer movement, then in the PNDC as the Saviour of Ghana from excessive Blood bath, and then to the NPP as one of the most distinguished Ministers of State in Ghana’s Political History.
