![]() npp_new The Communications Director of the NPP, Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng has dismissed media reports that the New Patriotic Party is going to change its name to National Patriotic Party. According to him, it was just a suggestion from a party member. It would be recalled that the Ghanaian Observer (GO) Newspaper, in its Friday August 7, 2009 Publication carried a story with the headline “NPP To Change Name Soon”. The paper explained that the change of name forms part of the party’s constitutional amendments. Rebuffing the allegation, Mr Kwarteng pointed out that though the leadership of the party allowed the member to make his suggestion during a meeting; he can confirm that, the leadership of the party did not welcome the idea warmly and therefore have no intention of changing the name. The NPP, he said, will hold an extraordinary conference in Accra on Saturday, to consider proposals for amending some portions of the party’s constitution. Mr Kweku Kwarteng was speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’. Meanwhile, a story in the publication of today’s edition of the ‘Daily Guide’ carries the caption “NPP Shakes over Amendment.” The story in apparent reference to Saturday’s Extraordinary Delegates Conference, where the NPP is expected to hold discussion on the expansion of the party’s Electoral College, speaks of likely repercussions and possibly negative outbursts. But, Mr Kwarteng explained that such reforms such as the expansion of the NPP’s Electoral College will make party agents and other party faithfuls have a sense of belonging to the party. "Everybody matters and is very important to the party,” he added. Credit: John Nyaaba/Peacefmonline.com |
