AFAG to focus on strengthening institutions

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), a pressure group, said on Wednesday that its focus next year would be on institutional strengthening, consumer right advocacy, especially poor services in the telecommunication industry.

It will also focus on private sector development advocacy.

In a message released in Accra, it assured Ghanaians of its commitment to seeking their welfare, adding that it was looking forward to co-operating with Government in the coming year.

"AFAG believes that a lot can be done in common between Government and civil (society organizations) in order to promote the interest of Ghanaians," it said.

AFAG said it appreciated the excellent and efficient management of the Venture Capital Fund and believed that more can be done about Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre and other poverty alleviating financial intermediation schemes.

It added: "We use this opportunity to congratulate the media, Judicial Service and the Ghana Police Service for performing creditably well in the midst of the myriad of challenges."
