A Leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa has said that politicians have no business being in government because they have failed to provide the basic fundamental human needs of the people.
Asked whether he still had presidential ambition, Prof Akosa, speaking in an interview with the Times said, “I need not tell you this. The problems of Ghana have not yet been resolved. I believe I can do it. The country now needs a pathologist to lead the people.
“The experience of politicians in government has come to nothing, as far as Ghanaians are concerned, because they have not solved the basic fundamental needs of the people,” he added. He said Ghana needed a new breed of leadership, somebody not necessarily a politician but successful in whatever chosen profession.
Such leadership, he explained must be provided by people of “high integrity with A-A rating in credibility; adding that there were a lot of middle class Ghanaians who possessed these qualities.”
Prof Akosa a former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service said government must provide the people with basic amenities like nutritious food, healthcare, housing, quality education because they were fundamental basic rights to be enjoyed by the people.
“So far, it appears the government of Ghana has shirked these responsibilities,” Prof Akosa claims, saying “some politicians come to power to alleviate their own poverty and those of their great, grand children at the expense of the basic needs of the ordinary Ghanaian”.
Prof Akosa said the salvation of this country rested with the CPP, adding that for the party to win power, it must be led by someone who believed in the tenets of the party and must “himself be credible, bold, courageous and determined to solve the basic needs of the people.”
