The Asunafo South Member of Parliament George Boakye has dismissed allegations he is behind violent clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party and those of the ruling party in Sankore.

Supporters of the NDC are accusing the MP for organizing his supporters to unleash mayhem on them.

Clashes between the two groups have been persistent, especially before and during the December 2008 election, with the recent one being Sunday's, 19 July, 2009 which were preceded by a funeral ceremony.

It is unclear what triggered the recent violence, but the allegations have trickled in thick and fast.

A member of the NDC youth who spoke to Citi News said several of his colleagues sustained varying degrees of injury.

According to him, their attackers threatened to make their stay in Sankore a living hell.

Prince Nyarko, a youth organiser of the ruling party also confirmed the clashes but said one person believed to be an NPP supporter sustained gun shot wounds and has been admitted at the Guosu Hospital.

He called for immediate police intervention to avert further clashes.

Rejecting allegations he played a role in the clashes, Mr Boakye asked, "What will be the motivation for me,” adding the allegations were only meant to divert attention from what actually happened.

He said he was in Accra on the day of the clashes and wondered why he would be accused of such an allegation.

Mr. Boakye claimed he reported the incident to the IGP on hearing the news about the clashes in his constituency, and insisted, "I have nothing to do with it.
