Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

Hauling Kofi Wayo to Parliament is like placing a chamber pot on the dining table

The Member of Parliament for Amenfi East, Joseph Boahen Aidoo has stated that dragging maverick politician Kofi Wayo before the Privileges Committee of the House will amount to a heretical debasement of the House.

He said, “Just like the chamber pot has no place on the dining table… so it is that Kofi Wayo has no place in Parliament.”

Mr. Aidoo first sent the issue to Parliament asking that Mr. Wayo be summoned before the Privileges Committee of the House to explain his comments that MPs are criminals.

But the Speaker of Parliament, Mrs Joyce Bamford Addo didn’t think it necessary for the maverick politician to be hauled before the House.

The Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka, also told Joy News that asking Mr. Wayo to appear before the Privileges Committee will only make him a hero.

The MP for Amenfi East agrees.

He said “I am content with the Speaker’s decision. I think the conclusion that was drawn is [reasonable.]”

Mr Boahene Aidoo thus welcomed Parliament’s decision to disregard Kofi Wayo’s claims that Parliament is full of criminals.

But the MP for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa, P. C. Appiah-Ofori, however disagrees, maintaining that Mr. Wayo cannot be disregarded.

He believes that allowing Kofi Wayo to go scot-free will not only set a bad precedence but also the stage for people to make unguarded and derogatory statements about members of the House.

Mr Appiah-Ofori contended that the sanctions prescribed by the Standing Orders of Parliament must be applied fully against Mr Wayo to serve as a deterrent.
