Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

'KNUST will not be in a hurry to review grading system'

The examination officer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Mr. Daniel Kumi-Gyan says KNUST will not be in any haste to review her grading system upwards as the university of Ghana and University of Cape Coast have done.

The exam officer, who spoke to Focus News’ Bernard Buachi in an interview on Monday stated that the grading system of KNUST differs from that of UCC and UG in that, while KNUST used the cummulative Weighted Average(CWA), the other universities used the Grade Point Average System(GPA).

He was speaking on the upward review of the University of Ghana’s graduating system and how it will affect KNUST. He said, however, that the review undertaken by UG will not in any affect degrees awarded by KNUST.

Mr. Daniel Kumi-Gyan thinks that raising the grading system of the various universities is not necessarily the best tool to making students more productive. He emphatically states that a review of the current academic standards will only be considered when demanded fit by the university authorities; adding that the current standards are alright.

He says the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is not going to import other universities practices without considering its effects thoroughly.

It was earlier reported that the Registrar of the University of Ghana, Mr. Joseph Marfo had told the media that starting next academic year, the University of Ghana will only award grade “A” to students who scored 80% and above in their exams.
