Insist on Your Right to Education

Uneducated citizenry is like a pitch any game can be played on it. Illiteracy is what has given the politicians in Ghana the chance to fool so many people for so a long a time.

On his third attempt at standing for the presidency, John Evans Atta Mills won the General Election in 2008, on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress with 50.23% of the votes. Candidate Mills pledged to do a lot of things, including changing the lives of Ghanaians for the “better” and being “a father to all”.

But after one a half years of his administration, the ruling government seems unable to come up with a solution to the numerous problems the country is plagued with, so says the opposition. They even claim that nothing is going on well for them, to wit– ‘enko yie’.

Giving her comments on the issue, Ursula Owusu, an NPP activist said, she could not find any development projects the NDC administration had established.

“Probably they didn’t organize their manifesto well because what they said they would do in their manifesto is not being done,” she stated.

She made this comment during Peace FMs Morning Show programme, “Kokrokoo” when she was contributing to a panel discussion.

Ursula accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians by overburdening the masses with taxes.

“Every tax component available in the country has been increased,” she added.

The staunch NPP member said she sides with Sekou Nkrumah’s assertions that President Mills has failed to live up to expectations.

Ghana’s first President’s third son and a member of the NDC, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, in an exclusive interview in the influential Africawatch Magazine, stated that President Mills lacks the charisma, dynamism and strong will to lead Ghana. He also went further to say that the NDC government had so far failed Ghanaians.

According to Ursula, nothing seems to be working in the interest of the ruling government, adding that “his (President Mills’) own people in the NDC are against him”.

“…enko yie,” she posited.

Former Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Ben Allotey Jacobs
But the former Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Ben Allotey Jacobs, who was a panelist on the programme sharply disagrees, pointing out that “the NDC government was working hard”.

“We’re doing our best to have a “Better Ghana Agenda’, and that when it gets to 2012, NDC will be united more than ever,” he stated.
