A radical Ghanaian politician, Charles Kofi Wayo, has expressed his disappointment over the refusal of Parliament to summon him before the august house to substantiate allegations made against members of the house.
The firebrand politician said he felt sad that he did not get the opportunity to appear before the Privileges Committee.
The founder of the defunct United Renaissance Party (URP) took members of the country’s legislature to the cleaners during an interview on an Accra-based radio station, when he described the house as useless, and its members a “bunch of criminals”.
The house was billed to summon the controversial political figure to substantiate his allegations, but after deliberations last Tuesday, the house resolved not to pursue the case, after it was unanimously agreed that Mr. Wayo made the statements out of ignorance and ill-information.
Members of the house also consented that inviting Kofi Wayo to the house would amount to glorifying and making a hero out of an obviously nonsensical statement from the controversial figure.
“We didn’t want to create a hero out of him, we know Kofi Wayo is not normal, and his personal track record can attest to that,” Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah told a Kumasi based radio station yesterday, in an answer to why the house failed to invite Mr. Wayo.
But, Kofi Wayo is licking his fingers for missing the chance to face his adversaries, stressing, “I would have made damning revelations there.”
Speaking on a Kumasi-based radio station in an interview, Mr. Wayo, popularly known as “Chuck,” maintained that he was not afraid of anyone in the house, and was eveready to face them.
Mr. Wayo also descended heavily on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, and used unprintable words against him.
Agyapong was alleged to have made some uncomplimentary remarks about the private life of Mr. Kofi Wayo during parliamentary deliberations last Tuesday.
